Angel of The North – Miss Quatro 2016

Thu, 01st January By Claire richardson

Six of our gymnasts travelled to Liverpool to take part in a large national invitational competition, ‘Angel of The North – Miss Quatro 2016’ and compete against some of the best gymnasts from clubs right across the country. The competition was held at City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club, home of Olympians Beth Tweddle & Rebecca Tunney, it was a fun and friendly day full of Sparkles, Disney Characters and plenty of glitter!

First up on Sunday morning were our 3 in-age Compulsory Grade 3 gymnasts, Poppy, Niamh & Jess R. They all performed brilliantly showcasing their sassy and stylish new floor routines. Poppy nailed an absolutely stunning beam routine to finish 1st on that piece, whilst Jess and Niamh pulled out amazingly strong Vaults and all 3 girls earning a special bronze apparatus award. Fantastic results all round, with Jess receiving a rosette for a fabulous 4th place finish and Poppy receiving a Miss Quatro sash & rosette for finishing in 2nd place overall.

Round 2 saw Ally competing National Grade 3, in a strong field of 19 gymnasts.  Confidently sticking the tricky new moves on beam gave Ally a boost on her first piece, moving on to earn a silver apparatus award for range and conditioning.  A beautifully strong & smooth bars routine earned Ally a gold apparatus award and the highest score on that piece. Great scores all-round saw another super finish with a 4th place rosette for Ally.

Next up was Nina competing a tough National Grade 1, and little Jess B competing Compulsory Grade 4. The girls would have been forgiven for being slightly distracted as London 2012 Olympian Rebecca Tunney warmed up and competed alongside them!  Nina’s strong clean performance on bars earned her a bronze apparatus award and she picked up a fabulous bronze award on range and conditioning. A super strong vault and an elegant floor routine saw Nina finish on the podium with a 3rd place rosette and sash. This was the first National competition for little Jess B who performed brilliantly and gave us a beautiful beam routine, coming away with a silver floor award and bronze Bars apparatus award.

A fun and friendly day against some very very strong competition. Our girls all performed brilliantly and did the club proud. Huge thanks to coaches Kristie & Claire for all their hard work before and their support during the competition. Thanks to Paula for a long day of judging and to the parents/supporters for making the trip. Time to get back into the gym and get those moves polished up ready for Yorkshire Grades in April.

Well Done Girls… #superstars
